Today's Weather Outlook UPDATED 9:30 AM EST, November 10, 2009 By WeatherBug Meteorologist, Chad Merrill | Soaking downpours and gusty winds are punishing the Southeast as Ida pushes ashore today. The only other soggy spots nationwide will be the Upper Midwest and Northwest.
WeatherBug Meteorologist Rachel Peterson has the latest on today`s weather and Ida in this exclusive WeatherBug Video.
One to five inches of rain will soak the Gulf Coast and Southeast. The heaviest of these showers and storms will drench the Florida panhandle and Alabama. Coupled with the pelting downpours will be gusty winds blowing at 20 to 30 mph that will create sporadic power outages. These showers and storms will slowly edge north into the southern Appalachians and Carolinas during the day.
More showers will spread through the Northwest with a bit of snow in the northern Cascades and Olympic mountains. An additional 4 to 8 inches of snow will blanket the mountains while the raincoats and windshield wipers get another workout Tuesday in the lower elevations.
Other than a few spotty showers moving from the eastern Plains to Upper Midwest along a weak cold front, dry weather will win out from New England through the Ohio Valley and much of the Plains to the California coast.
Tropical Storm Ida`s clouds and rain will cool the Southeast, with highs only reaching the 60s. These readings will be widespread farther north in the Mid-Atlantic where the sun will be obscured by clouds. A wide stretch of real estate from the Northeast and Great Lakes to the Great Basin will see 50s and 60s. A smattering of 70s will greet southern California to the southern Plains.
The coolest spots will be the Rockies and Cascades where highs will be in the 30s while the warmest locations will be the Southwest and southern Florida where mid to upper 80s will rule.
